Valentine's Day love hearts on rocks couldn't be easier using this method. It's even suitable for little fingers, under supervision of course. After all, we don't want our little ones licking the paint from their fingers, even if it is non-toxic!
Here's what you'll need:
- Your chosen rock
- Red acrylic paints
- Paint pallet or an old plate / saucer
- Paint pens or Sharpies (optional)
- Black and white paint pens (optional)
- Black Sharpie / permanent marker pen (also optional)
- Warm, soapy water
- A sponge
And this is how it's done:
1. Wash and dry your rock. For more details on how to prepare your rock for painting, please click here.
2. Add a drop of red paint onto your plate.
3. Using a finger, dip it in the paint. Use a clean part of the plate to take some excess paint off, you will probably need to do this.
4. Place your finger, once, at an angle, and make a mark on the rock.
5. Repeat Step 3 then, position your finger, or child's finger, at the opposite angle to the first 'blob' of red paint.
Here, I have started on a darker rock.
Now Is a good time to make use of that warm, soapy water and sponge to wash your hands with.
6. Allow to dry.
7. If you want to, write on the reverse of your rock. You can write whatever you wish using your paint pen or Sharpie, if it's a Taff Rocks rock, click here for some suggestions.
8. At this point, you can finish and skip to Step 9.
Alternatively, you can add some features like arms and eyes etc. Do not add any embellishments if you are sharing your rock outdoors. See Basic Do's and Do Not's here.
9. Once dry and 'finished', seal your rock.

10. Allow to dry after sealing.
