Daisy-Eyed Smileys

A New Pen Experiment

A little while ago, these pens were 'doing the rounds' on one or two rock painting groups claiming to be better on rocks than some other pens. It was claimed that they do not run or smudge when sealing.

Of course, Taff Rocks had to try a little 'experiment' to check out these claims.

I Can't Paint

By Sally-Ann Luxton
26 April 2019

It's no good asking me, I can't paint (or so I thought)

When I was asked to help out with some painting my first thought was 'I can paint a wall but that's it. I can't paint!!!'

Thank you B&Q Merthyr Tydfil

Taff Rocks would like to take a moment to thank B&Q Merthyr Tydfil for their fantastic donation of paints!

When starting out, it is a daunting process, especially when you want so much to run workshops but, alas, funds are an issue.

Taff Rocks wrote a letter to their local B&Q Depot asking for masonry paint tester pots at a reduced price. Before we knew it, an email ended up in our inbox with such wonderful news.

Not all bee rocks for the Ynysowen Beeline has to have a bumblebee on them, you can also try these.  There's no tutorial, as such, but included here are the Graffiti Alphabet letters that were used on these two rocks.

The Ynysowen Beeline Event

We, at Taff Rocks, want to celebrate you! We want to celebrate that, even with all our differences, we can all work together regardless of age, gender, religion and everything else. We also want to celebrate the humble bumble bee, without which, our lives would be so much different.

To do this, on Friday June 21st, Taff Rocks are making a BeeLine for the old pit wall in Nixonville in Merthyr Tydfil. The event starts at 1pm and ends at 5pm.

Latest News and Updates

Back in 2018, the co-founders promised themselves that they'd bring Taff Rocks Rock Schools aka workshops, out into the community. To do this, they needed to fundraise!

At the end of last month, we were successful in our Small Grants application, for start-up, from Invest Local in the Ynysowen Area. This grant will enable us to secure DBS checks, Public Liability Insurance, and some basic start-up materials and equipment.

Owl Rock

After creating a few bee rocks recently, here at Taff Rocks HQ, we thought we'd have a change and create an Owl rock for you.  If you're looking for our complete lists of tutorials, click here for the index

There are many and varied tutorials out there on how to create simple owls on rocks and make them look perhaps a little more complicated when completed. It's all nice and simple and we encourage you to have a browse around the internet, including Pinterest, for some ideas

With the recent additions of spring-time 'things' tutorials of finger-painted bees, flowers and caterpillars, anything Spring just wouldn't be Springy enough without the anticipation of caterpillars emerging as butterflies not long away! There might even be another bee tutorial due soon so, watch this space!

This butterfly is absolutely as colourful as you want her to be, so let's get creating!

Using Colouring Books For Inspiration

I have been asked, in the past, where I get some of my inspiration from. I am unashamedly a great user of the internet and kids colouring books.

The reason why I prefer kids colouring books is because of the simplicity of some of the pages, which allows me to directly copy or even just get the ideas.

Easy Finger Painted Caterpillar

These little caterpillars are just so sweet! If you change the colour of his face, you can turn an 'ordinary' caterpillar into The Hungry Caterpillar!

Easy Finger Painted Flowers

Finger painted flowers, a beautiful and simple little flower of any colour your desire. Creating finger painted flower rocks couldn't be easier, even for little fingers, under adult supervision. After all, we don't want our little ones putting their paint-y fingers in their mouths, even if the pain is non-toxic.

Easy Finger Painted Bumble Bees

With the coming of spring, comes the buzzing of the bees. Creating bumble bee rocks couldn't be easier when using this easy finger painted method. It's even suitable for little fingers, under supervision. After all, we don't want our little ones licking the paint, even if it is non-toxic.
